Big 5 Invasion

Tuesday night I went up to Stabler Arena at Lehigh University to watch the Mountain Hawks take on the Hawks of St. Joe's. The game was competitive. St. Joe's would be on the verge of pulling away when Lehigh would make a run to keep it close.
Ultimately, the game was won on the offensive boards, but there were two things that Lehigh did that really boggled my mind.
1. Forward Zahir Carrington put in six straight points to bring Lehigh within four, then all of a sudden he was on the bench?
2. Following a Lehigh timeout, lead scorer Marquis Hall took the inbounds pass inside mid-court, dribbled once and fired a shot that had to be at least eight feet behind the arch. I have a hard time believing, coming out of a timeout, that a shot like that was their best option - especially when they were only down by five with about seven minutes left to play.
Even though Lafayette and now Lehigh both lost their recent games to Philly teams, they'll benefit greatly later in the season – and in the conference tournament – from playing teams like St. Joe's and Temple early on.
It was also a great opportunity for local basketball fans to see high level basketball action. Hopefully Lehigh and Lafayette will continue scheduling games like this in the future.
