Our “special occasions” place in Lehigh Valley

Over the years, the Apollo Grill has become our “special occasions” place. We’ve celebrated a number of life’s milestones there, so it seemed a fitting place to raise a glass to another year.
As is always true of my dining experiences at the Apollo Grill, the night was magical. Historic Bethlehem was still aglow with white Christmas lights, and tucked away between the shops on Broad Street, the Apollo Grill sits quaint and unassuming. Inside, however, the energy is electric.
It’s not a huge restaurant by any means; in fact, I’ve often wondered how they manage to pack the place full while maintaining a sense of intimacy at each table. The walls are always adorned with the work of local artists (they’re currently displaying “Watermelon Farm,” a mixed media acrylic series by Karen Lesniak) and the food always arrives at the table looking like a work of art itself. These are the subtleties that keep us coming back.
I wish I could tell you that all of the food is amazing but I wouldn’t know; I order the same thing every time: a Razz Matazz martini and the Sesame Crusted Sea Scallops(which is served with a miso glaze over soy basmati rice). It’s so heavenly that in all the years we’ve been coming here, I haven’t brought myself to order anything else.
Have you tried anything other than the Sesame Crusted Sea Scallops at the Apollo Grill?
