A great day for a walk in a Lehigh Valley park

The Center for Animal Health & Welfare of Easton held their Sneaks for Paws 5K event on Saturday at Allentown’s Little Lehigh Parkway. Since my wife and I love to support animals, we registered to walk in this event several weeks ago and had been watching the forecast closely. Luckily for us the weather on Saturday morning was fantastic. The sun was shining and the temperatures were in the low 60s. Perfect weather for both 2- and 4-legged participants.
When we arrived at the registration table, we were greeted by a variety of dogs including Pugs, English Bulldogs and French Bulldogs. The dogs seemed more excited about the run then their human counterparts.
The 5K race began at 9 and was followed minutes later by the walkers. The walkers and dogs took this beautiful day as an opportunity to socialize with others on the trail. About 20 minutes into the walk, you could tell which dogs were going to be the leaders of the pack.
All of the 100 human participants finished the race in about an hour and a half. Following the race, everyone gathered near the registration area and awards were handed out. Prizes were awarded to runners in 4 different age categories, although the real winners were animals of The Center for Animal Health & Welfare.
Erin and I had so much fun at this year’s event that we are already planning to attend the 2011 event. We hope to see you there.
Have you ever been to Lehigh Parkway in Allentown? It seems like a great place to hold such an event.
