A bit of Steeler Country in Lehigh Valley

For those of you who know me, you know that I am a huge Steelers fan. Yes, I am still mourning over their Super Bowl appearance, but that won’t stop me from watching them next year.
The Friday before the Super Bowl, my girlfriend and I headed out for a happy hour at a place that I hadn’t been to in over 20 years; the Hops Fogelsville Hotel. It’s located on the western side of Lehigh Valley close to one of my of my other favorite places … Glasbern Inn.
We arrived at the Hops Fogelsville Hotel around 6 p.m. The place was jam packed with a variety of age ranges. There’s a dining room side, which had some families mixed with young and old couples alike. Then there’s the bar side. We were lucky to get one seat to share for the first hour we were there. It was crazy in there!
We decided to eat and chose to get a pizza and the pierogies. Grease and carbs when you are drinking, right? The pierogies were hand-made pieces of heaven. We got ours deep fried, not sautéed. They had a great taste and aren’t like the traditional Mrs. T’s. I would highly recommend them.
One of my favorite things about this place is that it is decorated with Steelers memorabilia. There were all kinds of items on the walls and on the bar. It made me very happy! One thing that I didn’t understand is on the ceiling, there were crumbled up dollar bills suspended with I‘m not sure what. I didn’t get a chance to ask anyone what that was all about because it was so busy, but I would love to know the meaning behind it.
Have you checked out the Hops Fogelsville Hotel? Are you a regular there? What’s “up” with the dollar bills? I know when I need a Steelers fix, I’ll be heading there again!
