Since I was born and raised in New Jersey, most of my family gatherings take place in the Garden State. So for Mother’s Day this year, my wife and I offered to host a dinner in Lehigh Valley. There would be 8 of us, including 2 children, so we brainstormed possible options and then it came to us; Hibachi (Everyone loves dinner and a show).

I’m not sure if you have noticed, but Lehigh Valley has numerous Hibachi restaurants.  Erin and I chose to make a reservation at the A1 Japanese Steak House in Allentown. We have had great experiences there in the past and we knew the chefs would put on a great show for our 3 ½ year old niece.

The restaurant has several semi-private rooms and my entire family was seated at our own hibachi table. This was great for Sammy so that she was front and center for the entire show. After everyone placed their order it was show time as the chef arrived with his tools and immediately started to perform.  He began the show with an egg flipping demonstration. Sammy was amazed as he balanced an egg on the side of a metal spatula. Now that he had everyone’s attention, it was time for a more impressive trick; the onion volcano. The entire family watched closely as the chef built this intricate piece, and within seconds he had fire flowing from the top, greeted by applause from our group.

The chef continued to show off his cooking skills as he prepared the chicken, shrimp, steak and scallops. The entire family enjoyed their delicious meal and most importantly the show. The Hibachi meal was a success and may even become a new Mother’s Day tradition.

What is your favorite Hibachi restaurant in Lehigh Valley?
