Laughs in Bethlehem

What do you get when you combine a delicious burger and a hilarious comedy show? The perfect Friday night in Lehigh Valley.
Like so many of my other blog posts, this evening began with dinner in Bethlehem. Erin and I visited one our favorite restaurants at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem; Burgers and More By Emeril. We both enjoyed a fantastic meal of burgers and onion rings. By the time we left the casino, we were both completely stuffed and ready to be entertained.
Friday night was the perfect night with Jon Oliver of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart performing at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks. This was the first comedy show at the Musikfest Café and it drew a diverse crowd of Oliver’s fans. The show began with an entertaining opening set by Mike Lawrence, who got the audience laughing with his jokes about living in New York City.
After a short set by Lawrence, it was time for the headliner to take the stage. Within minutes of his arrival, Oliver began joking about the changing colors of the blast furnaces. At one point even saying that this was the single weirdest venue he had ever been in. That line was followed up with jokes about the royal wedding, the TV show Wipeout, Sarah Palin and even Boise, Idaho.
By the time Jon Oliver was done with his set, the entire audience had laughed to the point of exhaustion. Erin and I had a great time at the show and can’t wait for his return visit to the Musikfest Café.
