Rubix Kube: An 80’s Concert Experience
July 10th, 2012 posted by Marc Kaminetsky
I have recently seen a number of 80’s cover bands in Lehigh Valley, including The M 80’s and UUU. So when I found out that Rubix Kube was playing at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, I cleared my calendar for July 5th.
As we were walking towards the SteelStacks campus we noticed there was a crowd at the Levitt Pavilion. Hollywood Nights was on stage playing music from Bob Seger. The crowd was having a great time and their show was a fantastic introduction for our night out in Bethlehem.
Following the performance at the pavilion, we headed inside for the Rubix Kube Concert. The band promotes themselves as the ultimate 80’s tribute band, and by the look of the crowd, we were back in the 80’s. The audience was covered in neon clothes and Ferris Bueller t-shirts.
Their opening set included some classic songs like Toni Basil’s “Mickey,” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al.” While the crowd enjoyed those hits, the highlights were definitely Devo’s “Whip It” and Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now,” although the ArtsQuest Center shook the most with Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.” By the time those songs were done, the crowd was completely into the 80’s vibe.
After spending a couple of hours listening to 80’s music, I was ready to watch Ghostbusters and eat some Pop Rocks. Do you have a favorite 80’s cover band?
