Last Week, T-Town Hosted the 2012 Junior Nationals

The Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown, also know as The Velodrome or T-town, has hosted many huge events: World Cups, Olympic trials, World Championships, National Championships and other various major international events. Last week, they played host to the 2012 USA Cycling Juniors Track National Championships. If you missed it, shame on you!
Here’s what you need to know. July 7th, Bobby Lea was extremely impressive in his last home tune-up before heading into Olympic prep. That night, there was also an impressive field of riders preparing for Junior Nationals. Those local riders would prove a force during the week that followed.
I was lucky enough to be there for Thursday’s morning session. The sun was high, but the riders I saw on the track, regardless of age, all had amazing skill and kicked it into high gear. Even watching them against the clock was enjoyable. Our local riders, both those who call Lehigh Valley home and those who call our track home did very well. I don’t have the final stats, but it seemed like one of our local riders had a shot at almost every medal given away. A very high compliment to the youth cycling programs at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center.
What does all this mean? Two things. One, a few of those riders could be the next US Cycling Olympic Medalist, and two, we’ve got Junior Nationals coming back to our track next year. Don’t miss it!
