It’s Time to Pig out at the 3rd Annual Bacon Fest 2014

How many ways can you eat a pig? You can find out at the 3rd annual Bacon Fest held November 8 and 9 in Downtown Easton, Centre Square. It’s the largest festival associated with Easton’s farmers market. In its third year, the festival plans to have the biggest one yet, with an estimated attendance of over 50,000.
The festival originated from the highly successful VegFest held each year in Bethlehem. The idea was that if a vegan festival can do so well, why can’t a “meat festival” or Bacon Festival do just as well for the non-vegan and meat lovers in this world? The idea became a huge success as PA Bacon fest is now also listed as one of the top 300 festivals in the world on www.fest300.com.
In the previous years, the festival ran out of bacon early, but not this year with the help of Breakaway Farms. They have been saving up bacon since spring and plan to have over 30,000 lbs. in sales and consumption this year, plus a reserve for emergencies. This grass roots festival has more than 100 volunteers and all bacon served and sold is from local pasteurized pork products.
What can you expect to see and do at the two day Bacon Festival? There will be more than 130 vendors and all the local shops and restaurants will have specials and extend their store hours. There will be chef demos, 16 bands and musical acts, a Bacon Inspired Home Brew Competition sponsored by Weyerbacher , bacon cupcake competition, kids’ activities, bacon dashes, a Miss PA Bacon Fest Pageant, pig roasts, bacon battles and so much more. Some of the events do require a small fee so remember to check their website for more details. Lastly, if you’re worried about parking and traffic, don’t fret as there will be reserved “Porking Lots” available outside the festival with free shuttle service to and from the festival.
