A Few Alternative Ideas for Lent Meals in Lehigh Valley

During Lent, many people give up something they like such as a food, a drink, or activity as a remembrance to their religious tradition. Meat is also not consumed on Fridays which includes beef, veal, pork and poultry. For meat lovers, this sacrifice can be challenging to find acceptable substitutes during Lent. Here’s some great alternative options to meat during Lent.
1) Seafood is a great go to protein during Lent. Fish fillets such as salmon, tilapia, flounder, haddock, crab cakes, etc are all super easy to make and can be made in a variety of ways with seasonings and sauces. You can serve fish over rice along with some veggies and you have a well balanced meal. Of course you can never go wrong with going out to a great seafood restaurant like Youell’s Oyster House or Becks Land and Sea.
2) Italian is affordable way to make a delicious meal during Lent. Pastas especially have a lot of potential because there are so many sauce options. Cheese has a lot of protein, plus you can veggies to any of your pasta dishes. Other options would include meatless lasagna, ravioli or traditional macaroni and cheese. At last, there’s always the all American option of picking up pizza on a Friday at Roma Ristorante or The Brick.
3) Foreign cuisine such as Chinese or Mexican have a great selection of meatless meals. For Mexican, you can make tacos or burritos using beans and rice, plus you can add lots of toppings such as guacamole, salsa, cilantro, veggies, etc. to make a well rounded meal. Chinese cuisine uses tofu as a high protein meat substitute. Try making a stir fry using, tofu, veggies, spices and a flavorful sauce. Or if you’d prefer the experts to make it, head over to Mesa for Mexican or Hunan Springs for Chinese.
