Welcome to Lehigh Valley, College Students!
August 27th, 2015 posted by Kaitie Burger
At the close of each summer, nearly 50,000 college students pack their bags and head towards Lehigh Valley for another semester of classes.
With ten colleges and universities in the area, there is a wide range of degree paths, programs of studies, and styles of college experiences available. From large, division one schools, to smaller, liberal arts schools, to well-respected community colleges – you’ll find students of all types in Lehigh Valley.
So before you get bogged down in schoolwork, why not get out an explore the area a bit? As a graduate of a Lehigh Valley college, I know it’s sometimes all too easy to get stuck within the bubble of your campus. Trust me- there’s plenty to enjoy while you’re here throughout the semester!
Stretch your legs on one of Lehigh Valley’s many trails. Whether you prefer to hike, bike, or run, there’s plenty of mileage to get out for some fresh air and a solid dose of exercise. If you’re of the competitive sort, Lehigh Valley is also home to a number of half marathons, plus a slew of 5k events.
Catch a show at the State Theatre Center for the Arts. Many schools offer on-campus performances in theatre, dance, music, and more. Don’t skip out on those- you’ll find some of the best theatre in the country at Lehigh Valley schools. But for a night off campus, check out the schedule of events for venues like the State Theatre Center for the Arts.
Treat yourself to a meal outside of the dining hall. We know you have plenty of meal swipes to use up, but everyone needs a change of pace once in a while . No matter where your school is located, you’ll find a host of restaurants near by. Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton’s downtown areas are home to a variety of restaurants ranging from casual to fine dining experiences.
If you’re of age, upgrade from that bottom shelf party drink and sample some locally crafted wines, beers, and spirits. C’mon. You can’t drink out of that bucket of questionable ingredients forever. Stop by to visit one of the vineyards along the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail. More into beer? Then the Lehigh Valley Ale Trail is for you. Craving a hand-crafted cocktail? Check out Social Still or County Seats Spirits for locally distilled vodka, rum, gin, and more.
Get a dose of culture at a local museum. View priceless works of art at the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley. Take in loads of history at the various locations of Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites. See a variety of models of guitars at the Martin Guitar Factory and Museum. See the full list of museums on our website.
Hit the slopes when winter arrives. Into winter sports? Bring your gear back to campus after break! You’ll find affordable lift tickets available at both Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Blue Mountain Resort.
Mark your calendars for a slew of upcoming events. The Great Allentown Fair, Celtic Classic, Yuengling Oktoberfest, PA Bacon Fest, the Bacon & Beer Bash, and that’s just the beginning of the list! Be sure to follow along on our calendar to stay up-to-date on all the special fun happening throughout the region all year round.
So the next time you’re sitting around thinking you have nothing to do, open up that laptop and head to DiscoverLehighValley.com for some inspiration.
