Satisfy Your Garlic Cravings at Easton Garlic Fest
September 23rd, 2015 posted by Aliza Levin
Easton becomes a place of great peril to vampires during October thanks to the annual Easton Garlic Fest. On Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, grab some breath mints and head over to the 15th annual festival and get ready to embrace their motto, “Eat, Drink, and Stink.”
As you stroll through Easton’s Centre Square there will be chefs, live music, beer/wine tastings, artisan vendors, and contests—all devoted to pleasing your senses while enjoying the featured ingredient of garlic. The official opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and the fun continues until 5 p.m.
From traditional to unusual, the event displays a range of dishes to please any garlic lover’s palate. In past years there has been chocolate covered garlic and garlic ice cream. While I’m not sure if I’ll be that adventurous this year, I will be on the lookout for gyros with extra garlic in my tzatziki.
Admission to the weekend’s events is free! Beer by the glass and beer tasting sessions will be available for purchase at “The Stinkin’ Biergarten.” The beer roster currently includes Weyerbacher, Two Rivers, and Saucony Creek Brewing Companies. The accordionist will surely add some entertainment to this section of the event.
There will also be tons of fun contests to enter for a fee. With the success of last year’s, the festival will be adding even more contests to this year’s lineup. There will be a garlic tasting contest, dessert contest (sample unthinkable garlic dessert combos), and much more.
New this year is a children’s area filled with crafts, a petting zoo, obstacle courses, and a kid chef cook off. Named “Little Stinkers Row”, this area will be located on North 3rd Street and is the perfect spot for families and the kiddos.
Sunday will feature live music from Easton’s School of Rock. From 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., the kids from The School of Rock will perform songs from their Summer 2015 shows. Cover songs will include hits by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Green Day, and more.
This is a weekend you don’t want to miss. Grab your friends and family and head to Easton for a day filled with eating, drinking, and stinking. For more information leading up to the event, visit eastongarlicfest.com or their Facebook page.
