Yummy mac and cheese!

When I was little, there were few things that excited me more that seeing the blue box of Kraft macaroni and cheese out on the counter, maybe even Stouffer’s if we were feeling fancy that night. From there, we progressed to after-school Easy Mac (I even had my parents mail me a box of Easy Mac when I was studying abroad in London… my English roommates didn’t really understand the appeal).

Philadelphia Dance Company

Earlier in the month, I had the chance to stop by Miller Symphony Hall in Allentown to catch a show. They may have recently changed their name (previously Allentown Symphony Hall), but the caliber of performances has remained.

After a pre-show drink at Cosmopolitan, I walked across the street to the theatre. The night I attended, the Koresh Dance Company was in town from Philadelphia. The performance was outstanding and was very well-received by the audience. Rather than a few full-length pieces, the company featured snippets of various works from their repertoire over the last 20 years. We were able to get a taste of many different styles, from fierce full-company pieces to emotional duets.

On Monday evening, beer enthusiasts from across Lehigh Valley made their way over to the Allentown Brew Works for the official start of Lehigh Valley Beer Week.  As the first of a new annual event, Beer Week stands to celebrate craft beers through different tap takeovers, beer dinners, and sampling events.

Running February 11 – 17, Lehigh Valley Beer Week is modeled after those of Philadelphia and San Francisco; a number of bars and restaurants who agree to host various events throughout the week.

Herb Crusted Tilapia @ Valenca

On Wednesday evening, my boyfriend and I made a visit over to Easton to have a taste at their Restaurant Week. From January 20 – January 26, patrons are invited out to try a new restaurant with multi-course lunch and dinner specials all for a fixed price. Participating in this year’s restaurant are great places such as Sette Luna, Maxim’s 22 and Mesa, but Mike and I decided to give Valenca a try.

You can't dodge the fun!

Tuesday happens to be my favorite day of the week. Why, you ask? Sure, there’s some good shows on TV, it’s not Monday anymore and it’s a bit closer to Friday… you get the point.  But the real reason I enjoy Tuesdays: dodgeball.

That’s right.  Dodgeball.  I’m sure you have two images in your mind right now:  third-grade gym class and a big-screen battle between Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.  Put those two together and that’s what the ROC Social Club brings to Allentown on Tuesday nights.

After a week of holidays filled with family and home-cooked meals, it’s always nice to get out and let someone else do the cooking for a night.

So to escape the cold windy night, I stopped by Bellissimo Ristorante in Allentown for dinner last night.  They have so many great options on their menu, there’s surely something to please everyone.

Christmas Steins at Christkindlmarkt

My family doesn’t mess around when it comes to Christmas. Every square inch of my parent’s house in Mountoursville, Pa  is transformed into Christmas-land. Obviously we go with the basics; some lights on the outside of the house, tree decked out to the nines in the living room, but then we take it the extra mile.

We have not just one, but three trees (one with regular ornaments, one with all snowmen, and one with mice). Christmas plates get swapped out with the normal every day ones. We have a living room full of Santas. German Nutcrackers line the stairs. A dining room overflows with snowmen. Kitchen cabinets are topped with a collection of holiday Coca-Cola bottles.

Full Plate + Emtpy Stomach = Satisfaction

With Thanksgiving just around the corner chances are you’ll be having your fill of turkey.  So when you’re ready for a different type of meal, why not enjoy some finer dining?

Last week a friend of mine was in town for the day and we decided to meet for dinner.  After establishing that I was too indecisive to make a restaurant choice, we ended up somewhere we frequent pretty often, the Sands Casino® Bethlehem.  But before we were ready to test our luck on the tables, we decided to stop by one of my favorite restaurants for a delicious meal.

On the Town

And the show must go on…

Just as the saying goes… and that’s exactly what happened at two Lehigh Valley college campuses this past weekend. After what was a powerless week for many people, theatre and dance goers were able to get out of the house to catch one of the stunning performances.
