The holidays are always the same for me. Just like in the movie Four Christmases (which I saw last weekend), I visit three or four different households on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and each house always offers some kind of "surprise."

This Thanksgiving was no different.

My wife, Sybil, two friends, Stan and Ellane, and I did 83% of the Hidden Treasures Tour last Sunday. This is the fourth year my wife and I have done the tour, and it never ceases to impress. Artist DeLana Hornbeck is the brains behind the tour and she does a great job.

Each of the six venues on the tour is a working studio of one of the artists. Two or more additional artists set up to sell their work in the studio as well, and light refreshments are generally available. You have the opportunity to talk with the artists and learn what’s behind their work and, in some cases, also see how it’s made. It is a great opportunity to see and buy original work.

In 2005, I was visiting Missoula, Montana and attended a local production of this bizarre play called Bug. It was held in the back room of a restaurant with seating for, maybe, 50 people. A year later, Ashley Judd brought Bug to life on the national big screen.

So when I attended the premier of local filmmaker Zeke Zelker’s new movie, InSearchOf, I couldn’t hope but wonder if this film was going to hit the national spotlight in 2009? I guess only time will tell.

Well, Lehigh Valley residents and visitors to our area, the Civic Theatre of Allentown is certainly a gem!

The performance of Beauty and the Beast was absolutely mesmerizing! My four-year-old niece, who has never seen a live stage performance, was so entertained she could not take her eyes off the stage. She clapped after every song, and at one point leaned over and whispered, “I like Belle.”

I am so excited. I have tickets for Saturday night’s performance of “Beauty and the Beast” at the Civic Theatre! I am taking my 4-year-old niece and her mother and forcing my husband to accompany us. Hopefully the Phillies will have won the World Series, otherwise I will need to find a willing replacement!

Just want to know if anyone has seen it yet and how you liked it? It has been getting good reviews in the newspaper.

I got to go to the Fire & Ice fundraiser event two weeks ago at Banana Factory in SouthSide Bethlehem. It benefits their GlassWorks studio, which I am crazy about. If you haven’t yet been to BF, you really need to check it out. You can tour the artists’ studios and visit their two galleries and see the exhibits and it won’t cost you a dime!

They also have classes on everything from digital photography, in case you want to make the most of that expensive camera your husband talked you into buying, to dancing, in case you have two left feet and your wife demands that you do something about it.
