Levitt with Stacks (photo credit Frank Smith)

A few years back, Staples office supply stores used the famous holiday song clip “…it’s the most wonderful time of the year…” promoting back to school season. I thought that was a clever marketing ploy, but it’s just how I feel this time every year.

Why, you might ask? It is the start of free outdoor concert season in Lehigh Valley! Once again I can throw my long retired soccer mom chair in the trunk and head on over to live performances at the Levitt Pavilion on the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem.

The Chili Cook Off Trophy

There’s no hotter way to start off spring in Lehigh Valley than with the Spring on Fourth! What’s on Third? festival held annually in downtown Bethlehem. Even if that means unexpectedly trying some ghost chili pepper this past Saturday afternoon. And, even if my tongue is a bit fried from the excitement, Spring on Fourth has definitely set the bar for another what should prove fantastic festival season in Lehigh Valley.

Tour Martin Guitar

By Sarah Mason, Discover Lehigh Valley Intern

There’s something pretty crazy about witnessing a man holding and playing a guitar that cost about as much as your college tuition. Though, this specific guitar is from C.F. Martin & Co and it has a lot of beautiful pearl in it and sounds amazing. It’s beauty almost makes you think that it’s not crazy that it costs about as much as your college tuition.

Who is Mary Lambert and why should you care?

Mary Lambert is playing at the Musikfest Cafe at SteelStacks in Bethlehem on March 30 and you may not know about it. Why? Because she’s “relevant.”

Let’s be honest. Some current complaints about popular Lehigh Valley music venues (even if they are bringing in some incredible acts, like Hall & Oates and Marilyn Manson, on a regular basis) are that the artists booked there may not be “relevant.”

St. Patrick's Day Activities in Lehigh Valley!

St. Patrick’s Day is usually the time of year in Lehigh Valley where a glint of spring begins to shine down on the streets that just a few weeks ago were feet deep in snow. It’s the first time in the new year focused on getting outside and celebrating with friends and family without the protective gear you’d see on at Ski Blue Mountain.

Thankfully, Lehigh Valley is home to not one, but two great St. Patrick’s Day city celebrations in for the form of the 58th Allentown St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the 5th Celtic Classic Parade of the Shamrocks in downtown Bethlehem. If you’re like us, you’re going to attend both, but if you have to decide, we’ll give you a breakdown on both as well as a few other events going on throughout the area.

LVMA16 at SteelStacks

On Sunday, George Wacker and I had the honor of presenting several awards at the 16th Lehigh Valley Music Awards. I wanted to make some observations. Many awards went to musicians that I have heard on a regular basis throughout Lehigh Valley. Dave Fry, Sarah Ayres, James Supra, Craig Thatcher, Large Flowerheads and Tower Suite have shown an incredible ability to grow and expand their musicianship.
