Museum of Modern Peeps Diorama

Yesterday I invited my friends Ellane & Stacey from Langhorne to join me at the first Peeps Fest on the same site of Christkindlmarkt in downtown Bethlehem. We enjoyed …

  • eating Peep s’mores
  • watching the carving of a Peeps ice sculpture
  • taking pictures of the Peep Mobile
  • the creativity and sheer whimsy of Peeps dioramas created by local school children (the photo above is of the winning diorama, “Museum of Modern Peeps,” which was created by 12 students from Northern Lehigh High School; their prize … they get to lower the giant Peep in Payrow Plaza at midnight!)

There was also musical entertainment and a crafts area to engage Peeps fanatics of all ages, but my friends and I were anxious to check out the merchandise:

Rosie Santa

Rosie FINALLY saw Santa, or St. Nicholas as he is called at Christkindlmarkt.  He is the best Santa around. His old-world costume is perfect and his charm made Rosie’s first visit with him very special. If Rosie gets the new bibs she asked him for, it will truly be a perfect Christmas!

I also enjoyed shopping at Christkindlmarkt after Rosie was finished with St. Nick. The bad weather the day before might have put a damper on people venturing out, but not us. My Mom, Dad, Rosie and I were determined to visit the holiday market.

Christkindlmarkt

I sometimes pick up a thing or two throughout the year for Christmas gifts, but I usually don’t have a specific recipient in mind. Those are items I really just bought because I couldn’t resist.

The bulk of my holiday shopping is done last minute at one of my favorite Lehigh Valley shopping destinations, Christkindlmarkt in Historic Bethlehem. I’ve already printed out my $1 off admission and 10% off participating vendors coupons for this year’s pilgrimage.

New-year-resolution-cartoon-1

It was about this time last year when I started coming up with my “Things do in Lehigh Valley” lists. These three lists (Top 5 Plays, Top 5 Restaurants, Top 5 Overall) were my New Year’s resolutions for 2009. Since the year is almost over, I’ve decided to take a look at how I did.

Lehigh Valley Theater: Top 5 Plays for 2009: I was three for five in this category (although one of the plays I planned to attend was actually canceled, so I was actually three for four). Here are my reviews of the performances I saw at three fantastic venues throughout Lehigh Valley:

Baby and mom in a park

Back in July, I had a baby. And so far, it has been quite an adventure.

While out on maternity leave, which I recently returned from, baby Rosie and I got into quite a routine of eating, napping, watching TV, eating, napping, watching TV … get the picture? I needed to break out of this rut, so I decided to take my new ‘travel system’ to Trexler Park in Allentown and take a stroll.

If you can believe the weatherman, it will actually feel like summer for the next 10 days here in Lehigh Valley, so it’s time for my Top 5 Favorite Summer Activities in Lehigh Valley.

1. Dutch Springs – Although it’s primarily known as a scuba diving facility (one of the largest fresh-water facilities in the country!), Dutch Springs has a fantastic Aqua Park. There’s so much to talk about regarding Dutch Springs, I’m going to write an entire blog post on it, so stay tuned.

Banana factory

After a recent glass art class at the Banana Factory, I took myself on a tour of the facility since it was my first time there.

Obviously there were glass works on display right outside the GlassWorks studio. In fact, there were paintings, pottery and photographs from many resident artists on display throughout the Banana Factory.

2009 post-it

This is the final post in my 2009 New Year’s resolution series, which revolves around experiencing more in Lehigh Valley. Previous installments include the Top 5 Plays for 2009 and the Top 5 Restaurants for 2009.

I’ve lived in this area for 28 years now (I just celebrated my birthday on Friday), and I’m amazed how many things there are to do in Lehigh Valley that I didn’t know about. So my final resolution for 2009 is to experience five new things to do in Lehigh Valley.

I got to go to the Fire & Ice fundraiser event two weeks ago at Banana Factory in SouthSide Bethlehem. It benefits their GlassWorks studio, which I am crazy about. If you haven’t yet been to BF, you really need to check it out. You can tour the artists’ studios and visit their two galleries and see the exhibits and it won’t cost you a dime!

They also have classes on everything from digital photography, in case you want to make the most of that expensive camera your husband talked you into buying, to dancing, in case you have two left feet and your wife demands that you do something about it.
