On the first Friday night of every month, the shops, restaurants, and art galleries of South Bethlehem open their doors and welcome passersby to step inside and discover something new. They do this in celebration of First Friday, a community tradition I’ve known about for years but have never managed to attend. So when a friend suggested we check it out, I decided that last Friday would be my first First Friday.Continue Reading
It’s not every day that your favorite band hits the road for a tour. And, it’s definitely not every day that they happen to make a stop in the town where you live. But if you’re a fan of the Avett Brothers like I am, you’re lucky enough to have them make an appearance twice within the last two years at Musikfest.
This year, the Avett Brothers returned to close out Musikfest 2016 as part of a tour supporting their new album True Sadness. With support from Langhorne Slim, a native of Langhorne, PA, the night promised to be full of music that would hit every emotion, from tugging at your heart strings to stomping and clapping as you dance in the aisles.Continue Reading
Musikfest. Don Henley. Need I say more? The Eagles music mastermind put on one incredible show to what seemed to be a sold-out crowd Wednesday night at the Sands Steel Stage at Musikfest in Bethlehem.
It was a balmy 90-plus degrees, with humidity making it feel like it was close to 100, but that didn’t stop the fans from moving to the music of this nearly 70-year old performer. Henley played for nearly two and a half hours adorned with jeans, a rolled up button down shirt, and his iconic vest.Continue Reading
Electricity! The show that could’ve been.
When a concert review starts with a weather update… well, not good! Inclement weather had been threatening the Musikfest all day long yesterday. This threat was real. However, after warm up band Chevelle took the Sands Steel Stage last night, everyone in attendance felt all would be alright on this night. Chevelle was terrific… and the lightening? Nah… we’re good! The lightening lightshow steadily flashing and creeping in would only enhance the atmosphere.Continue Reading

It was More Than A Feeling as the crowd scurried into the main entrance at the Sands Steel Stage on Tuesday night. As we weaved in and out of the lines with a full mug in hand the smiles kept growing.
Inside the gate the lines were not long and there were plenty of food and beverage options. The bathrooms were very clean with attentive ushers giving out hand sanitizer wipes. The sections were labeled clearly and there were plenty of helping hands to assist you in finding your seat.Continue Reading
Escape rooms, the newest trend sweeping the nation, have arrived in Lehigh Valley. The idea is that you get locked in a themed room with a group of friends (or strangers). You have a time limit to escape, so you must think outside of the box, decipher clues, and solve the puzzle to get yourself out.
Captured LV is the first to hit Lehigh Valley and is situated in the lower level of the Main Street Commons in historic Bethlehem. There are two different escape rooms at Captured LV—the Alchemy Lab and Pirate’s Chamber.Continue Reading
Excitement and anticipation lit up the air on the opening night of Musikfest. Opening the show were piano rockers Jukebox the Ghost, who played a free concert at the Levitt Pavilion at Steelstacks earlier in the summer months. Rachel Platten performed a heartfelt performance talking about the struggles of show business in her own life. The crowd was invigorated by her popular songs “Fight Song” and “Stand by You.”
Nighttime fell and X Ambassadors took the stage with an incendiary presence. The soul funk band hailing from Ithaca, NY provided the perfect set to kick off ten days of Musikfest fun. Multi-talented lead singer Sam Harris kept the audience engaged from start to finish. The most commanding moment may have been before the hit song “Renegades.” Harris provoked the audience to think about unity and making a positive change in the world.Continue Reading
