Each July, Burnside Plantation transforms into the home of the Blueberry Festival. Presented by Historic Bethlehem Museum & Sites, this event celebrates one of the summer’s tastiest treats.

As you enter the grounds of Burnside Plantation, you are taken back in time. The original structures still stand, and guided tours are available throughout the day. From food, to crafts, to kid-friendly entertainment, and even more food- there’s something for everyone at this annual event.

Fireworks kick off just after dusk.

I love fireworks, but I miss them every year on the 4th of July because we go to a friend’s picnic instead. Not to worry! While Lehigh Valley has fabulous firework displays in Allentown and Bethlehem on the 4th, Easton holds out for a later date. Why, you may ask? Easton’s big celebration is on Heritage Day.

This year Heritage Day is on Sunday, July 12 in celebration of a historic event.

The Abel Opera House, Sigal Bridal Gallery, and the Sigal Museum all have one very big thing in common: their location. The Abel Opera House and Sigal Bridal Gallery evolved to what is now the historic downtown Easton’s Sigal Museum. I say “evolved” as the museum still pays homage to these previous tenants in many ways through their exhibits. Opening in the summer of 2010, the Sigal Museum is a gem in the historic downtown, flying a bright red banner reading “History Here” on its exterior. The museum is a mere block from the Easton Farmers’ Market, and a must-see if you are in the area! There is something in this museum for everyone – adults and children alike.

Enjoy the heat … somewhere it’s minus 3 degrees today. Summer has officially begun, and temperatures in Lehigh Valley will top 90-degrees this week, but tomorrow there’s an 80-percent chance of three inches of the white stuff falling in the aptly named Snow Hill, Antarctica. Can you stand the stifling humidity just a little more now?
