Who's up for a Martini at lunch?

In honor of my birthday, I think I’d like to bring back the work lunch cocktail … today! After a stressful few morning hours in the office, don’t you think just one little cocktail would make for a much better afternoon with your coworkers? After all, Mad Men did it on a regular basis, didn’t they?

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that alcohol is not the answer to relieve stress, and by all means, I am not an alcoholic. But, for some people it brings out the best thinking cap and it allows them to speak freely and feel relaxed.

A New Year is upon us and it’s time to look forward to Lehigh Valley fun in the upcoming year.

January, the beginning of the calendar year, isn’t always about beginnings as it is usually the middle of winter and a great time to hit the slopes on one or both ski areas in Lehigh Valley: Bear Creek and Blue Mountain.

Fall might be my favorite time for beers- I’m a sucker for anything pumpkin! While the days may be getting shorter, there is definitely no shortage of excitement surround the Lehigh Valley Ale Trail. Check out a few of our highlights from the last few months.

Local favorites Fegley’s Brew Works and Weyerbacher Brewing Company have both had wonderful seasons with their respective pumpkin beers. If you haven’t had a chance to sample these brews yet, I highly recommend that you do so before it’s too late. Both breweries offer tours on weekends; Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works on Saturdays (, free but by reservation only), and Weyerbacher on Fridays & Saturdays (free). Be sure to enjoy a sampling of beers after you hear about what goes into the process.

Lehigh Valley's Biggest Street Fair

Fall’s a great season; the leaves changing on the trees, cooler weather, and, of course, the West End Oktoberfest. This will be its seventh year, and the West End Alliance is pulling all the stops. Here is why you need to swing by this year’s West End Oktoberfest — the Lehigh Valley’s biggest street fair — on Saturday October 4th from 11 am-10 pm.

As many of you may know, the West End Alliance has been working for a few years now on a massive streetscaping project to renew and revitalize the look of the West End Theatre District.

Porters' Pub in Easton

The instant I stepped foot into Porters’ Pub & Restaurant in Easton, I felt like I had traveled to Ireland. One thing though, I’ve never been to Ireland, nor had I been to this place. I’ve driven past it many times and wondered what it was like inside. Did they have good food? Is there live music? What was the bar and clientele like?

Well, once inside, it is exactly how I envisioned a quaint little Irish pub, from the atmosphere of the stone walls to the wooden floors and bar area. The clientele was mixed which was nice. And, let me tell you, the food was great … definitely not your typical pub fare.

Second Round

The First Round is complete, the votes have been tallied and it is time to both announce and start the 2014 Lehigh Valley Lunacy Second Round.

Being a high seed is better this year than last. All #1, #2 and #3 seeds made it out of the First Round. In fact, compared to last year’s 12 First Round upsets, this year’s 8 is mild.

Let the Lunacy Begin

It’s time for the Second Annual Lehigh Valley Lunacy Tournament. Last year’s Lunacy was full of lower seed domination, ten first round upsets really shook up the brackets. This year new places join the Lunacy to see who can defeat the top seeds.
