Celebrate Father's Day in Lehigh Valley.

Summertime in Lehigh Valley is in full effect and the next holiday is right around the corner. Sunday, June 19 marks Father’s Day this year and the weekend is filled with events, meals, activities, and more to celebrate dad.

Last year I scored tickets to the IronPigs game on Father’s Day which was a perfect day out in the sun. This year, the IronPigs play the Buffalo Bisons all weekend long and you are guaranteed to have some fun.  On Sunday, there is a BBQ set for the first 2,000 men (18+) that enter the stadium to enjoy before/during the game.

Cheers to the inaugural Cider and Wine Festival!

The Lehigh Valley Cider and Wine Festival was a perfect Saturday afternoon. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs nailed the inaugural, sold-out event right on the field of Coca-Cola Park. The festival featured hard cider and wine tastings from the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail and local and regional cideries.

Cider is my favorite drink of choice and wine comes in at a close second so you could say I was living the dream (at least in my eyes). From the moment my friends and I made our entrance, we knew we were in for a treat.

The winery owners of the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail’s nine member wineries are often asked when is a good time to explore the trail. And while it’s true that any time of the year is great for visiting, special events make the trip along the trail even more fun because there’s more to see and do.

The Wine Trail’s next event is the annual Harvest Weekend – The Butcher, The Baker, & The Winemaker on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13. It takes place in the midst of harvest season, when the vineyards are busy with workers removing the mature grape clusters from the vines, which are then crushed to remove their juice.  The juice is then processed and placed into wood barrels or stainless steel tanks for fermenting.

Wine on the Mountain is here!

Keep Calm and Drink Wine! I’m sure we have all seen this saying before? Well what better place to drink wine than at Wine on the Mountain. This weekend, Penn’s Peak will be transformed into a wine lover’s paradise as the nine wineries that make up the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail and a variety of vendors welcome everyone.

We reached out to our frequent guest blogger and owner of Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery, Kari Skrip Gavenus, for a sneak peak at what one can expect. So without further ado, here’s Kari.

Iceland

Enjoy the heat … somewhere it’s minus 3 degrees today. Summer has officially begun, and temperatures in Lehigh Valley will top 90-degrees this week, but tomorrow there’s an 80-percent chance of three inches of the white stuff falling in the aptly named Snow Hill, Antarctica. Can you stand the stifling humidity just a little more now?

Whether you like your day’s the-hotter-the-better, or are already grumbling about having to leave the office at lunchtime, the staff at the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley has a suggestion, cool out!
