Memorial Day Weekend in Lehigh Valley

Memorial Day is a time to gather together with friends and celebrate a federal holiday, which many enjoy as a three-day weekend. It also happens to be the unofficial start of summer in Lehigh Valley. But let us not forget that it is also a time to remember those who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

What follows are some suggestions for what to do during your Memorial Day weekend, even if it’s only of the regular two-day variety.

Where will you spend your tax refund?

Each year, millions of Americans look forward to that magical day when they find out how much they will be getting back in a tax refund. And while some may get back more than others, everyone still has many options on where they’d like to spend it.

You can pay bills, pay off debt, save it, spend it, or invest it. There’s no single right answer for everyone as your financial situation will largely dictate what makes the most sense.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs open their 2015 season on April 9 and, like pretty much every opening season before, there are fun new foods and park changes to look forward to.

In the past, the IronPigs have debuted new seating sections called the  “Hot Corner” and “Bacon Strip” in 2013 and the club introduced the Red Robin Tiki Terrace & Oasis in 2012. They also introduced urinal games in the men’s bathrooms to much fanfare, and our own video demonstration,in 2013 as well.

A Hungry Nine-Year-Old

“Mom, Dad, I’m hungry.” This phrase is common place in our household, especially with a son that seems to always have his head in the refrigerator. If your house is like ours, we are often in need of a cooking break (more my wife than me) so the next question is, where should we go?” Our son, Noah, is as picky as they come when it comes to eating out.

So, I interviewed one hungry nine-year-old and here are his recommendations. I had to take some liberties and make some modifications, but all-in-all, this is his list. I hope it helps those in need with finding some new, and perhaps some old, eating establishments that are definitely kid-friendly.

Not One Bad Seat in the House

I’ll admit that I am not the biggest hockey fan, but I’m also not a bandwagon Johnny come lately, either. I watch the NHL playoffs every year. I don’t have a team, but I really do enjoy the sport. What does this all mean? It means that TV hockey, even if it’s the NHL playoffs, can’t hold a candle to the real thing!

Being there you get to see the line changes, all of the movement and setup for offensive and defensive plays that you don’t see on TV, because the camera is just following the puck. And then there is the noise, when a shot misses the net and hits the plexiglass it’s louder than you’re expecting if you’ve never seen it in person.
