Ocean Spray is here

Last week I had the opportunity to do one of the most enjoyable parts of my job, telling people who will be moving here all the fun things there are to do in Lehigh Valley. I was asked to participate in the Ocean Spray Relocation Fair since their aging distribution plant in Bordentown, NJ will be relocating to a brand new facility in Macungie, PA.

I can't wait to do these again

Everything old is new again and the “same old, same old” is not humdrum. Sometimes attractions and events that happen each year are the most fun Lehigh Valley things that I want to do again this coming year.

April 4th, 2013 is Opening Day for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Last season, our ‘Pigs fell short of replicating their playoff run of 2011, but they were in the hunt until the very end. Meaningful baseball down the stretch starts with a good April and I’ll be there again to cheer them on.

Lehigh Valley Mascots

Lehigh Valley has some adorable mascots already.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have Ferrous and Fefe.

JustBorn has Mike and Ike and a bunch of PEEPS.

Yocco’s has the Hot Dog King.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort has their big fuzzy bear.

And, now the Lehigh Valley Phantoms ice hockey team has Dax, a fun looking beaver.

But, what about Lehigh Valley at large? What would be an appropriate, or even just the most fun, mascot that could encapsulate the whole area?

We’re not 100 percent sure, but we did come up with a few, let us know your thoughts.

New Seating at IronPigs' Coca-Cola Park!

Boston’s Fenway Park is iconic for its massive left-field wall known as the “Green Monster.” The wall is feared by players for its home run eating height and loved by fans for its impressive presence.

It’s become a long-time source of pride for fans of the Boston Red Sox, who crowd the seats behind the Monster for each and every game.

Summer's Not Over

It may appear to most, that summer is over. There are no more Friday nights under the lights at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, there will be no more baseball at Coca-Cola Park, school has started, Musikfest and the Great Allentown Fair are in the rear view mirror and the weather for the week is rather wet.

Don’t fret, Lehigh Valley. There is still a little summer left to salvage. Summer’s official end is September 21st and I now submit to you the top 5 things to do in the waning days of summer.

IronPigs Christmas

By Jillian Bevacqua, Blogger

Before last week, I’d never sat in the stands at the Lehigh Valley’s Coca Cola Park. I’d only been on the field.

My four years at Muhlenberg College brought me to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs’ home stadium every year for the Walk to Defeat ALS, where my friends and I circled the parking lots, stadium and even paced through the outfield. When given the opportunity last week to attend an actual Iron Pigs game, I jumped at the chance to see the stadium in it’s full, Triple-A team glory.

The Great Pork Race

It seems that lists always strike up pretty good conversation, and with the official start of summer just about two weeks away I thought I’d start my own list about (with all due respect to Don Henley) our boys of summer, the IronPigs.

For those that are unaware, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, offering high caliber baseball throughout the summer at Coca-Cola Park. The park provides a beautiful setting for family-friendly entertainment at an affordable price, with lawn seats starting at just $7. You can take the family and not break the bank.

Opening Night - The Late Innings

Opening Night - The Late Innings

Last week, I had a Lehigh Valley baseball lover’s dream week. I was at our beloved Coca-Cola Park four days last week. I don’t think weeks get any better than that (at least not for a baseball fan). Oh, and did I mention that the IronPigs are 2-0 on the season, very much the same start I had in attending games to start last season.

IronPigs

Being the diehard baseball fan that I am, I recently returned from my second annual pilgrimage to Clearwater, Florida to cheer on the Philadelphia Phillies with some friends last weekend. I’ve been a fan of the Phillies for as long as I’ve been alive, and upon working here at Discover Lehigh Valley I made a “discovery” of my own. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs offer even the most discerning fan an affordable alternative to their favorite MLB team with some exciting minor league action.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know that the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are the Triple-A Affiliate of the beasts from the east, the Philadelphia Phillies. If you haven’t been to a game yet, you have no idea what you’re missing.
