Not One Bad Seat in the House

I’ll admit that I am not the biggest hockey fan, but I’m also not a bandwagon Johnny come lately, either. I watch the NHL playoffs every year. I don’t have a team, but I really do enjoy the sport. What does this all mean? It means that TV hockey, even if it’s the NHL playoffs, can’t hold a candle to the real thing!

Being there you get to see the line changes, all of the movement and setup for offensive and defensive plays that you don’t see on TV, because the camera is just following the puck. And then there is the noise, when a shot misses the net and hits the plexiglass it’s louder than you’re expecting if you’ve never seen it in person.

PPL Center at 7th and Hamilton

I was not born and raised in Lehigh Valley but I’ve made it my home since 1981. I know local natives love their hometowns but I think transplants to the region (and visitors) have a special appreciation of Lehigh Valley.

My first introduction to the area was opening what is now the Holiday Inn Center City Allentown. The full service hotel at 9th & Hamilton Streets was the “Allentown Hilton” back then. We shared the intersection with the famous Hess’s department store which was still going strong, the iconic PPL tower and a really cool bar and restaurant, The Good Spirit on the fourth corner. As a young 20 something I was excited to be working in a real city.

Lehigh Valley Mascots

Lehigh Valley has some adorable mascots already.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have Ferrous and Fefe.

JustBorn has Mike and Ike and a bunch of PEEPS.

Yocco’s has the Hot Dog King.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort has their big fuzzy bear.

And, now the Lehigh Valley Phantoms ice hockey team has Dax, a fun looking beaver.

But, what about Lehigh Valley at large? What would be an appropriate, or even just the most fun, mascot that could encapsulate the whole area?

We’re not 100 percent sure, but we did come up with a few, let us know your thoughts.
