I could quite possibly have set the record for the level of excitement leading up to a Musikfest show. Since The Avett Brothers were announced as a festival headliner last November, I’ve been (not so) quietly counting down the days, singing along to songs, and creating a million possible set lists in my mind.

I’ve been lucky enough to catch performances from brothers Scott & Seth Avett a handful of times over the last few years, and they never disappoint.

On the third night of Musikfest, a different sort of audience flocked to the Sands Steel Stage on Bethlehem’s South Side.

A primarily female audience turned out for pop music phenomenon, Jason DeRulo. There certainly was no shortage of squeals from the crowd as DeRulo sang and danced his way around the stage.

Many people keep a hand written or typed “bucket list”. You know, a list of things they want to see or do before they “kick the bucket”. For me it is more of an “I should do that” mental note.

If I had a real list I’d be able to cross off one item. I saw B.B. King. The B.B. King. Now I’ve had lots of opportunities to see him in Lehigh Valley over the years. He’s been a regular at the beautiful State Theatre Center for the Arts in Easton and last year played Musikfest in Bethlehem with Peter Frampton. (I’ll bet that was an interesting show.)

Sarah Ayers Band wins 2014 Musikfest Madness

Congratulations to 2014 Musikfest Madness Champion Sarah Ayers Band! The local musician narrowly defeated food vendor and Lehigh Valley favorite Take-a-Taco in the final matchup.

Along her way to the crown, Sarah Ayers Band defeated J.D. McPherson, The Blues Brotherhood, and Steely Dan before taking on Take-a-Taco in the finals (which were super close!)

Well, ‘Fest fans, it all comes down to this. From the original 32 participants, only #8 Sarah Ayers Band the SteelStacks Regional Champion and #3 Take a Taco the ‘Fest Mug Regional Champion remain to face off for the Championship.

The only difference in voting this round, will be that we will require an email to be supplied, so that you can be contacted in the event you are chosen as either a winner of a Musifest Mug or the Grand Prize Winner who will receive two tickets to any Sands Steel Stage show of their choice (except for Keith Urban because he’s super sold out.)

Allentown’s Blues, Brews, & Barbecue Transforms Hamilton Street into Fun Festival on Saturday

Downtown Allentown becomes the nexus of Lehigh Valley blues, beer, and great food on Saturday, June 14 as “Blues, Brews, and Barbecue” returns for the seventh time.

The festival, which closes down portions of Hamilton Street in the shadow of the PPL Building and PPL Plaza, runs from noon until 10 p.m., making it great for any schedule, and perfect for families looking to get out in the beautiful weather.
