Grand Opening of The Deli Plaza 2

This morning at 10am, I attended the ribbon cutting for The Deli Plaza 2. It’s located at 840 Hamilton Street, in the Butz Corporate Center, right next to Sangria.

For those of us who work in downtown Allentown, this is great news.

Firehouse Subs

Do you call it a sandwich, hoagie or a grinder? Whatever you call it; Lehigh Valley has plenty of famous delis. Some of the most popular shops are Dave’s Deli, Wally’s Deli and Primo Hoagies. Allentown recently added a new option, Firehouse Subs at the Airport Center shopping center.

With a new option in the area, my wife and I decided to visit Firehouse Subs on Saturday. We had heard good reviews and happened to be running some errands before the impending October snowstorm. As soon as we entered the shop we were greeted with a warm hello, firefighting memorabilia and a unique, extensive menu. The menu included subs called the Hook & Ladder®, Firehouse Meatball® and the Engineer®.

Allentown Farmer's Market

My name’s Mike, and I’m a Lehigh Valley transplant. I was born and raised in Bucks County; New Britain to be precise. Glad I got that off my chest!

When I started at Discover Lehigh Valley, it gave me an opportunity to explore this awesome region of Pennsylvania. I know my way around South Eastern PA, and this was a great opportunity to begin a new adventure a bit north of my comfort zone. A new area brings plenty of chances for exploration and a fresh enthusiasm for the places that I hadn’t been to very often. Yesterday was my first trip to Allentown Farmers Market, and I asked our friends on Lehigh Valley, PA’s facebook page for opinions on what I should get to eat.

Have you ever been addicted to a sandwich? I mean really addicted. Do you go out and buy this addictive sandwich twice a week or more? I have such a sandwich; The Signature Sandwich at the Deli Plaza. Or is it Plaza Deli, I’ve heard it both ways. But no matter which way you say it, it’s always on the corner of 10th and Hamilton in Allentown.

They have a great menu and although I do order one sandwich most of the time, I don’t exclusively order it all the time. I’ve had their Ruben and their Chicken Tenders, which comes with fries … they do have great fries. I still need to try their Gyros and their burgers look good, too. I don’t think you can go wrong at the Deli Plaza, but I still believe everyone should try the Signature Sandwich.

Wednesday night found my fiancée and I in the Lehigh Valley Mall looking for a place to eat. It just so happens that one of my favorite places to eat in Lehigh Valley is in that very mall, Dunderbak’s.

I have partaken in many of their dishes, their krauts and their wursts, but my favorites come from the Double Decker Mealwiches section.

It was a rainy, windy day in Lehigh Valley and I was wondering how wet I’d have to get to go out and get lunch. My options were open, and time wasn’t an issue, but an umbrella won’t help with sideways rain. So, when the rain died down, I walked over to The Noshery…

I just had lunch at one of my favorite locations in downtown Allentown … Bada Bingg!

I love the place for a number of reasons, all of which make Bada Bingg an easy decision where to go for lunch throughout the work week.

Green harvest food emporium

During lunch at Green Harvest Food Emporium in Easton, I realized there was fresh, locally grown lettuce on my ham-and-cheese-on-pretzel bread sandwich! I could taste it. It was multi-colored, tender and sweet.

Green Harvest Food Emporium is in the same building as the Grand Eastonian Suites. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week except Sunday. I love the term “Food Emporium” – which means they are a market that sells a variety of food items, even though the cafe is not a big place.

Lehigh Valley dining on a budget

So we’re all tightening our financial belts these days, which for me means less dining out. I consider myself a foodie, so dining out is a way of life for me. While I don’t need to dine out at a nice restaurant every day, I would like to do it, say… once a week.

Well I think I can justify dining out next week since The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley is doing its first Restaurant Week promotion from February 22 – 26. There will be fixed prices - but limited menu options – for lunch and dinner at several places in the shopping complex.
